Vald Testing

Train Off Your Numbers

Stop guessing. Start measuring.

Every athlete at The Ave can be tested on VALD force plates, timing lasers and a vertical jump pad — the same force-plate technology trusted by professional and college programs. You get real numbers, a clear plan built from them, and proof that the work is paying off.

The Tools

Three devices. One complete picture.

The Why

Force Plates

What your body actually does when it jumps and lands: how much force, how fast, how well you absorb it — and how different your left side is from your right.

The Number

Vertical Jump

The one score an athlete, a parent and a college coach all understand without explanation.

The Proof

Speed Lasers

Objective, repeatable sprint times. No stopwatch, no argument, no generous hand time.

What We Test

The Ave testing battery

About 15 minutes of testing, always after a full warm-up and always before training — so the numbers are honest and repeatable.

Countermovement Jump

Jump height, power relative to body weight, and how well you brake and redirect force. The most informative test we run.

Single-Leg Jump

Finds the side that is quietly doing less work — the imbalance that often shows up before an injury does.

Land & Hold

How hard you land and how fast you stabilize. Our knee test, built around the landing mechanics we coach every day.

Standing Vertical

Measured in inches. The number athletes love to watch climb.

10 & 20-Yard Sprint

Laser-timed acceleration — the first steps that decide who gets there first.

Change of Direction

A timed 5-0-5 cut to measure how quickly you stop, turn and go again.

Why the First 10

We test where games are won.

Almost no play in football, soccer, lacrosse or field hockey is decided past 20 yards. Getting off the line, beating a defender to the ball, closing on a runner — that is acceleration, and it lives in the first 10 yards.

So that is what we measure, with laser timing, every time. It is the most transferable speed number an athlete can own, and it is the one we train hardest to move.

The Performance Profile

Test, explain, then train

01

Test

A 45-minute one-on-one session: full warm-up, then the complete battery.

02

Explain

We sit down with the athlete and parent and walk through what every number means.

Progress you can see

Testing only means something when you come back to it. Every athlete follows the same calendar, so every result is compared to their own last one.

Baseline — before your program is written. We never program blind.
Week 8 — your first retest, and the first real look at what has changed.
Week 16 and season end — the full battery again, closing out the year on one page.
In-season check-ins — a quick jump test every few weeks so we can spot fatigue early and adjust training before it costs you a game.

Every Athlete

Built for more than one kind of goal

Individual Athletes

A baseline, a plan and retests that show exactly where you are getting faster, stronger and more explosive.

Teams & Combines

Preseason and midseason testing days for school and club teams. Contact us and we will build a combine around your roster.

Recruiting Profiles

A verified, dated, laser-timed profile to send to college coaches. A measured number beats a hand time every time.

Return to Play

Objective strength and landing data to support the road back from injury, alongside Chalon, our in-house physical therapist.

Female Athletes

Landing and single-leg testing every quarter — the knee-first approach we bring to every female athlete we train.

Every Sport

Football to volleyball, cheer to swimming — each sport gets the tests that matter for it, and nothing that doesn't.

FAQ

Common questions

How long does a Performance Profile take?

About 45 minutes: warm-up, the full testing battery, and a walk-through of your results with the athlete and parent.

What should my athlete wear?

Comfortable training clothes and the same sneakers they normally train in. Come rested — we don't test after a hard practice or a heavy lift.

Do I have to train at The Ave to get tested?

No. The Performance Profile is open to any athlete. If you start training with us, your results become the foundation of your program.

Can you test a 40-yard dash?

Not indoors — and we won't fake one. We laser-time the 10 and 20, where acceleration lives and where most plays are decided.

How do my results compare to other athletes?

We compare you to you first and to your sport second. The number that matters most is how far you have moved from your own baseline.

What ages do you test?

Athletes 10 and older, through high school, college and adult competitors. Parents of athletes under 18 are part of the results walk-through.

VALD testing at The Ave is a performance assessment, not a medical evaluation. It does not diagnose injury. If testing shows a significant imbalance or causes any pain, we will stop and refer you to a physical therapist before progressing your training.
